For centuries Mental Health was seen as a discipline solely to be handled and managed by Mental Health Professionals. Institutions were developed for psychiatric patients, living in isolation from the rest of the world. They lived the major part of their lives as patients in hospital wards, 365 days per year, and became institutionalized.
